Reading Notes: Jewish Fairy Tales, Part B

This time I only found myself really enjoying only one of the stories in Part B, which was The Higgledy-Piggledy Palace. It was interesting to see how Abraham attempted to hide Sarah and ultimately ended up bringing even more interest to the box and in the end having what he dreaded actually happening. Sarah was shown to stand her ground and speak her desire to leave. She was not afraid to threaten the Pharaoh and held her faith in this situation, which saved her in the end. I enjoyed the idea that Abraham was the only one who could cure the Pharaoh's leprosy and in the end would be rewarded for leaving with Sarah, similar to the way he was rewarded for giving him Sarah. I really like the foreshadowing element provided with Abraham's warning. I think that if I was to rewrite this story, like many other ones, I would attempt a more modern approach and maybe even something in a more comedic light.
