Reading Notes: Tejas Legends, Part B
Once again, I enjoyed reading all the stories and I found them to be interesting. These next stories were the ones where I managed to come up with an idea for storytelling.
The first story Why Hummingbirds Drink Only Dew and the idea was to make this story a modern and comedic. I remember in Part A I mentioned keeping the stories between children, this would be the exception. When reading this story I was struck with the idea of keeping the original plot but modifying it to make it realistic for humans to be the characters. The main plot had to do with veganism and I plan on taking a humorous approach to it, hopefully, it's somewhat funny.
The second story I had an idea for was Why the Irises Hold Hands. It was an interesting story and I liked that he decided to spare them so that they could learn from their mistakes. My idea was to keep the story but have it told from the perspective of the child and have the child pray to the Great Spirit and have that be what changes the Great Spirit's mind.
The final story Why the Dog's Ears Flops was not exactly what I expected. Honestly, I thought there was going to be a cute little explanation like with the pecan tree and orioles birds. Which is kind of how I plan on changing the story, giving a different reason but in a way that I can keep most the background. Instead of their ears flopping because of shame maybe it could be from constant praise. I had an idea but I'm not really sure how I'll execute it.
