Reading Notes: Chinese Fairy Tales, Part B

All of these stories have interesting aspects and features that I have not seen before.
The first story that I found really interesting was that of Fox Fire. The farmer gained the ability to see spirits, ghosts and devils and if I was to retell it, I would focus more on the task and jobs he took with his new ability. In the original, it is just stated that he got rich from performing tasks but never really described what they were like. I also liked how the fox waited a whole thirty years before taking his fire-ball back. I thought that was interesting that an angry fox would willing to be so patient and considerate.

Another story that I enjoyed reading was that of Retribution. The idea of reincarnation and vengeance was executed well in this story. I liked how both deaths were accidental but they were also both labeled as the victim only falling to death as opposed to be pushed or knocked over the terrace. I also really liked how this story was told in the perspective of a bystander who never said a word.
The final story that I liked reading was The Sorcerer of the White Lotus Lodge. If I was to retell it, I would focus more on the tricking performed by the Sorcerer, and maybe for this one place it in a medieval setting. The idea of staging the death of three people is incredibly interesting, and could also be approached in a modern sense, changing the Sorcerer to a wanted criminal.
